Amy Villacorta

Amy was born in Boulder, Colorado and raised in Bozeman, Montana. She has a deep love for mountains, music, and all things cello. Amy studied cello with Chandra Lind (Bozeman, MT), Dr. Robert Tueller (Rexburg, ID), and Silver Ainomäe (Minneapolis, MN). She currently studies with renowned cellist, Matt Haimovitz (Minneapolis, MN). Amy holds a Bachelor of Music Education with an Orchestral Emphasis from Brigham Young University Idaho.Amy played for two seasons with the Idaho Falls Symphony and previously worked as adjunct faculty in the Brigham Young University Idaho Department of Music teaching cello, conducting the university string orchestra, and teaching music education classes. She is a passionate teacher and has taught cello lessons for over ten years in Montana, Idaho, and Minnesota. Amy has performed on stage with renowned artists Joshua Roman, Time For Three, Brian Stokes Mitchell, William Hagen, Jenny Oaks Baker, Frederica von Stade, Holly Mulcahy, and Idaho chamber choir, Anam Cara. Since 2024, she can be seen with her cello in the pre-game showtime sequence for the NFL Minnesota Vikings home games.As CEO and founder of Rocky Mountain Cello, Amy dedicates her time to providing musical opportunities to cellists of all ages and ability levels. She is a firm believer and advocate for music and the arts in communities and schools and lives by the philosophy that music not only brings joy, but also provides opportunities to share culture, build connections between individuals, and find peace in trying times.
